Sunnahs to Follow on Friday – A Step-by-Step Guide

Sunnahs of Friday

Friday (Jumu’ah) is the most blessed day of the week in Islam. It holds immense significance in the eyes of Allah (SWT), and there are several Sunnahs that our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to practice. At Best Quran Lesson, we believe in reviving the Sunnah and guiding our readers toward a spiritually fulfilling life. Here’s your step-by-step guide to the Sunnahs of Friday.

1. Perform Ghusl (Ritual Bath)

One of the emphasized Sunnahs is taking a bath before the Jumu’ah prayer. It purifies the body and prepares one for the special prayer.

“Ghusl on Friday is compulsory for every adult.” – [Bukhari]

2. Trim Nails and Use Miswak

Keeping personal hygiene in check is a Sunnah. Trim your nails and use miswak or a toothbrush to clean your teeth before heading to the mosque.

3. Wear Clean and Best Clothes

Dress in clean and modest clothing. Wearing white or your best attire is encouraged, along with applying non-alcoholic perfume.

4. Recite Surah Al-Kahf

It’s a Sunnah to recite Surah Al-Kahf on Friday, either during the night or the day. It brings light and protection from Dajjal.

“Whoever recites Surah Al-Kahf on Friday, it will illuminate him with light from one Friday to the next.” – [Hakim]

5. Arrive Early for Jumu’ah

Arriving early at the masjid earns you greater reward. The angels record the names of those who come early and close the register when the khutbah begins.

6. Listen Attentively to the Khutbah

Avoid any distractions and remain silent during the khutbah (sermon). Even telling someone to stay quiet breaks your own focus.

7. Send Salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ

Sending Salawat (Durood) on the Prophet ﷺ on Fridays is highly recommended. Aim to send at least 100 times throughout the day.

8. Make Duas – Especially Between Asr and Maghrib

There is a special hour on Friday in which duas are accepted. Most scholars agree it is during the last part of the day, between Asr and Maghrib.

Final Thoughts

By reviving and following these Sunnahs on Fridays, you not only earn immense rewards but also strengthen your spiritual connection with Allah. At Best Quran Lesson, we encourage families and individuals to make these Sunnahs part of their weekly routine.
